The Joy of Opening a Book

July 2026Umerkot, Sindh5-day community engagement

In many communities, books are an everyday part of childhood. For many children in rural areas, however, access to reading materials beyond school textbooks remains limited; a quiet gap that shapes what children can imagine, learn, and become.

The Visit

On 24 July 2026, the Rehbar Foundation team visited Dadhro Village in Umerkot District to share books with children in the community. Children gathered during the visit to receive their books, looking through the pages, exploring the stories and information inside them, and experiencing that particular moment of a new book in hand for the first time.Books can play an important role in supporting children's learning by giving them opportunities to read, explore new ideas, and engage with learning beyond the classroom. Through this effort, Rehbar Foundation aims to support children's access to learning resources and encourage reading as part of their educational journey.

Why Education Matters to Rehbar

Alongside its work on livelihoods, labour rights, and community resilience, Rehbar Foundation recognises the importance of education in strengthening communities and creating opportunities for children. Access to reading materials is one small but meaningful part of that picture: a step toward ensuring children in rural Sindh have the same opportunities to learn, grow, and dream as children anywhere else.
