Every meaningful development intervention begins with a simple but often overlooked step: listening. In June 2026, the Rehbar Foundation team traveled to Ghotki, Sindh, to conduct a comprehensive baseline assessment, the foundation of a program designed to genuinely reflect the needs of the community it aims to serve.
Why Ghotki?
Ghotki district, like much of rural Sindh, faces persistent challenges in access to livelihoods, education, healthcare, and basic infrastructure. Before designing any intervention, Rehbar Foundation believes it is essential to understand these realities directly from the people who live them, not to assume, but to ask, observe, and listen.
What We Did
Over 10 days, our team engaged directly with the community through:
- Focus group discussions with rural men and women, held separately to ensure every voice, regardless of gender or social standing, could speak freely about their everyday challenges, coping strategies, and hopes for the future.
- Stakeholder consultations with local leaders, community elders, government representatives, and civil society actors to understand the broader systems shaping life in Ghotki.
- Household level conversations that captured lived experiences often missed in formal data collection: the daily realities of accessing clean water, income opportunities, healthcare, and education.
Why This Matters to Our Donors
A baseline assessment is more than data collection. It is the mechanism that ensures every rupee invested in our programs is directed where it is needed most, and measured against real, community defined outcomes.
By grounding our work in evidence gathered directly from Ghotki's rural men and women, we are able to design programs that are locally relevant, gender inclusive, and built for lasting impact, and to demonstrate that impact clearly to those who make our work possible.
What Comes Next
The findings from this assessment will directly shape Rehbar Foundation's program design in Ghotki, ensuring our interventions respond to needs identified by the community itself. We will continue to share updates as this work progresses, because our donors and partners deserve to see not just what we do, but why and how we do it.
Rehbar Foundation is committed to community-led, evidence based development across Sindh. To learn more about our work in Ghotki or to support our programs, contact us or visit our donate page.
